Best Dishwashers

Choosing a dishwasher isn't what many of us dream of doing after work, but the choice can save you significant money on your utility bills (over $100 in the US and £70 in the UK) as well as valuable time you can use to do more enjoyable things with. There are a lot of options on the market right now, and as everyone has different cooking habits there is no clear winner for everyone. The aim of this site is to help you make an informed choice of which dishwasher will be best for your circumstances.

But before we go on to discuss which dishwasher, the reason why having one is a good idea isn't obvious to everyone. Indeed in many developed countries such as the United Kingdom the majority of households still don't have dishwashers and instead to their washing up by hand. The UK admittedly is a bit of an exception here, caused by their traditionally small kitchen sizes combined with a need to have a tumble dryer due to the bad weather there. The time saving factor is obvious, a full dishwasher load consisting of eight place settings (just two meals for a family of four) and all kitchen equipment that went into cooking the meals would take over an hour to wash by hand, while it would take at most ten minutes to load and unload from a dishwasher.

The other factor in favour of dishwashers is that thanks to advances in technology they are now more efficient than washing by hand in terms of water used - 49 litres when washing by hand compared with only 13 using a dishwasher. That same full dishwasher load would take several times as much water as the sink would need to be emptied multiple times, a dishwasher uses filters so it doesn't need to freshen up the water inside it as often and uses directed water rather than soaking to clean the dishes inside.

Similarly dishwashers are better at cleaning dishes. If you remember dishwashers from decades ago you'll probably remember having to do a bit of hand cleaning on some of the pots and pans after they'd gone through a cycle. The tables have truly turned and dishwashers sold today are expert cleaners, using high temperatures and strong detergents that hands can't cope with to kill germs. It also thankfully means your hands won't have washing up wrinkles and you won't be arguing over dinner who will be doing the cleaning up!

So if you want your plates coming out gleamingly clean with hardly any effort expended, then investing in a dishwasher is clearly a necessity. You'll also be saving the planet and the money in your pocket, and won't be squabbling with your significant other over who does the dishes. If only you could decide which dishwasher to get! Carry on to the inner pages of this site make the decision over which product is best for your needs based on factors such as the space available, how much cooking you do, your budget and how often you think you'll use it.
